ALBRIGHTON FLOOD ALLEVIATION

On behalf of Albrighton Traders’ Association, I was invited to attend a Parish Council meeting held on 21 June 2007 during which a presentation on the Albrighton Flood Alleviation scheme was put forward by Severn Trent Water.

All present were handed a package outlining proposals and a copy of this is attached for your information.

Obviously highway works of this nature will undoubtedly cause major disruption and as a result businesses could be directly affected. In this connection Severn Trent Water have a “Compensation for Loss of Profit” scheme available and details of their guidance notes for claimants is also enclosed. The Albrighton Traders’ Association are unable to give any advice concerning the content of the scheme as we are not covered by professional indemnity insurance but we would urge you to seek guidance from your own Accountant in this connection.

It is appreciated that businesses will be seriously concerned regarding the forthcoming works and therefore the Albrighton Traders’ Association requested a meeting be held in order for Severn Trent Water and respective contractors to present their proposals to members.
STWA’s Business Compensation Manager will be in attendance at the meeting in order for compensation issues to be explained and discussed. It is also proposed that the meeting will give members the opportunity to express their particular concerns possibly resulting in STWA making visits to certain businesses to discuss matters further on-site as necessary.

An evening meeting between traders and STWA will therefore take place during October 2007 and you will be notified of the date, time and venue as soon as possible.
(Note: The meeting will also be open to businesses who are not members of the Association).

A separate Public Meeting with Mark Pritchard MP in attendance concerning the proposed works and wider varying flood issues is due to be held during September 2007 (the reason for this date is to allow as many residents to attend given the July/August summer holidays and for all reports to be completed).

The works have to be undertaken to prevent Albrighton from future flooding and that we would not challenge. However, we must make every effort to mitigate business loss and the impact on the local economy so it is imperative therefore that we talk and work together with Severn Trent Water and local authorities.
